Agnes K. Peters, R.N., of Brookville, IN, spouse and lifetime partner of deceased physician, Elmer E. Peters, M.D. (Deceased Mar 2001), departed this life on April 28, 2013. Born July 5, 1923, to John & Maria Kalnyansky Kotso in Hammond, IN. She was educated in the primary and secondary schools of that city. In 1945, Agnes received the R.N. degree by the St. Margaret Hospital School of Nursing also located in her home city. Advanced education was obtained at St. Mary College in South Bend, IN. Employed as a nursing supervisor by Riley Hospital in Indianapolis, Agnes met her future husband while both were working in that facility. Their marriage took place on September 4, 1948, according to the rites of the ancient Russian Orthodox Church in Hammond. The couple became the parents of seven children (six adopted). Two children preceded Agnes in death: Anne Elizabeth Peters who expired in 1983 and Nick Peters in 2008. Survivors are the following children: Eleanor Rose Peters of New York; NY, Mary Susan Peters of Brookville, IN; Dr. John & Sally Peters of Greenwood, IN; Joe & Donna Peters of Gosport, IN; Andy Peters of Brookville, IN; and Nick's widow, Kathy Peters, of Indianapolis, IN.Other survivors include the following siblings: Marge Krajewski of Florida; Eleanor Kotso of Los Angeles; Victor Kotso of Merrillville, IN; Joseph Kotso of Munster, IN; Robert Kotso of Hammond, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews. Two of Agnes' sisters preceded her in death: Irene Wallar of Las Vegas and Rose Smith of Naperville, IL.Following retirement from medical practice in 1990, the husband and wife team immersed themselves into the activities of their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren survive. Also, they devoted much of their retirement years, beginning in 1990, to the pursuits of genealogy and local history, co-illustrating two books. An active member of the Franklin County Historical Society, Agnes, over a period of years, was able to collect several hundred religious artifacts from various denominations. These she lovingly restored. They may be viewed in a small two century old brick cemetery structure at 10th & John Streets in Brookville. Calling will be from 10 AM - 12 Noon on Wednesday May 1, 2013 at Cook Funeral Home in Brookville IN. Services will be held at St. Michael Church in Brookville on Wednesday May 1, 2013 at 12:30 PM. Burial will take place in the church cemetery after the service. Memorial gifts will be accepted on behalf of the Building Fund of St. Michael School.
