Alberta "Bertie" Smith, 78, of Brookville, Indiana, passed away Saturday, March 16 at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana. She was born November 6, 1934 to Aloysius Otto Rosenberger and Clara J. Sauerland in Brookville. She married Donald "Buck" Smith on September 16, 1955 at St. Michael Church and he preceded her in death on March 28, 1998. She retired from Kroger after many years of employment and then worked at Brookville Water Works. Alberta was a member of St. Michael Church, and a devoted mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. Left to honor Alberta's memory are daughters, Julie (Scott) Hertel of Connersville, and Tammy (Dave) Sharp of Brookville; grandchildren, Chelsea and Katelyn Sharp; Brady Hertel; step-grandchildren, Megan Weber and Dustin Hertel; sisters, Shirley Helms and Janet Miller, both of Brookville, Donna Gesell of St. Peters, Joyce Lambert of Whitcomb, and Karen Weir of West Alexander, Ohio; and brothers, Donald Rosenberger and Herbert Rosenberger, both of Brookville.Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie, and sister, Phyllis Riedman. Visitation is Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Cook Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville, from 4 - 8 p.m. with Rosary beginning at 3:30. A mass of Christian burial, officiated by Rev. Sean Danda will be Wednesday, March 20, 2013, St. Michael Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. with burial following in the church cemetery.
