Anna Mae (Roark) Ahaus, 75, of Yorkville, Indiana died Monday, July 5, 2010 at the Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.She was born October 22, 1934 in Line Fork, Kentucky to Lou and Arnie (Caudill) Roark. She and her family moved to this area from Elrod, Kentucky when she was 16 years old. She married Frank E. Ahaus at St. Lawrence Church in Lawrenceburg, Indiana on November 14, 1953. She spent the majority of her life taking care of her home and raising her children. She worked for a while at the shoe factory and then as a nursing assistant at Elsie Dryer Nursing Home in Sunman, Indiana.Anna Mae enjoyed fishing, hunting ginsung, and bowling when she was younger and healthier. She loved to play bingo and cards, as well as going to the horse races. She owned thoroughbred horses that raced, mostly locally, including at Turfway, Shelbyville, Anderson, and Riverdowns. Her children laughed when talking about how independent, unique, and feisty their mom was. They said she got her driver's license in a dump truck and that she was her own carpeneter. They explained that their dad would leave for work and tell her not to knock down any walls but that he'd sometimes come home to find that she'd done just that, or at least moved a doorway. Survivors include her Husband of almost 57 years, Frank E. Ahaus, of Yorkville, Indiana; 5 Sons, Francis (Kim) Ahaus of Cincinnati, Ohio; Johnny (Paula) Ahaus of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Tommy of Yorkville, Indiana, Chris (Jane) Ahaus of Aurora, Indiana, and William Ahaus of Yorkville, Indiana; 4 Daughters, Sandy (Gary) Stenger of Sunman, Indiana, Mary (Rick) Clark of Dillsboro, Indiana, Tammy Ahaus of Milan, Indiana, and Nancy Ahaus of Sunman, Indiana; 5 Brothers, Harley Roark of Holton, Indiana, John Roark and Joe Roark, both of Greensburg, Indiana, Jim Roark of Versailles, Indiana, and Mark Roark of Line Fork, Kentucky; 8 Sisters, Eula Sizemore of Osgood, Indiana, Bonnie Kieffer of Osgood, Indiana, Thelma Osborn of North Vernon, Indiana, Georgia Sparks of Osgood, Indiana, Tina Wingate of Vevay, Indiana, Bonita Halcomb of Line Fork, Ketucky, Martha Hammon of Vevay, Indiana, and Lola Woods of Chicago, Illinois; and 20 Grandchildren & 25 Great-Grandchildren.In addition to her Parents she was preceded in death by her Father-in-law & Mother-in-law, Andrew & Jane Ahaus; 1 Daughter, Debbie Elizabeth Ahaus; 2 Sisters, Dana Craig and Ola Simon; 2 Grandsons, Andy Stenger & Josh Garrison; and 1 Great-Grandson, Kyle Garrison.The Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Friday, July 9, 2010 at Cook Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street, Sunman, Indiana, 47041. The Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM with Fr. Frank Eckstein officiating. The Visitation will then continue following the funeral and lasting until 1:00 PM.Memorial donations may be directed to the family to assist with expenses.
