Aris Sams, age 78, of Laurel, passed away Monday, September 15, 2014 at his residence. Born on May 28, 1936 in Manchester, Kentucky, he was the son of Dave Tolman and Addie Marcum Sams. Aris served his country In the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class. He married Anna Fitzwater on February 27, 1956 in Shelbyville, Indiana and she survives. Aris worked at Visteon for 30 years. After retirement, he kept himself busy with part-time jobs at Main Source as a courier and at Deufol. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, an elected official of the Laurel Advisory Board, and was a member of the Laurel Cemetery Board. Aris collected teapots, and loved spending time with his grandkids. He especially enjoyed going to yard sales and flea markets with his granddaughter, Courtney. Those surviving who will honor Aris' memory include his wife of 58 years, Anna Sams; son, David Sams (Lori) of Laurel; grandson Nathaniel (LeeAnna) Sams of Connersville; granddaughter Courtney Sams of Laurel; grandson, Derrick McNeely of Connersville, and sister Arlene (Frank) Handy of Connersville. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Sams, and brother Steve Sams. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday, September 19, 2014 at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville. Masonic services will begin at 12 noon, followed by the funeral service, conducted by Timothy Rasmussen. The final resting place is in Laurel North Cemetery. Memorial donations in honor of Aris may be directed to the Arthritis Foundation, American Heart Association or to the National Kidney Foundation.
