Bernard "Duke" Fields, age 76, of Brookville, Indiana passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford. He was born July 29, 1937 to Francis and Gladys Reid Fields. Bernard served his country as part of the United States Marine Corps. On March 22, 1957 he married Marilyn Hertel in Brookville. He retired from Perfect Circle in Richmond after 30 years of service. Bernard was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church and served on the Brookville Fire Department for several years. He enjoyed mowing and working on his property, mushroom hunting and taking short family trips. Those surviving who will honor Bernard's memory include his beloved wife of 56 years, Marilyn Fields; daughter, Rhonda Fields and son, Mike Fields, both of Brookville; brothers, John (JoAnn) Fields and Duane Fields of Connersville, sister, Dianne Lyday of Connersville, and brother, Darryl (Vicki) Fields of Destin, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation for family and friends is Saturday, March 22, 2014 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., officiated by Rev. Matt Voyer. Burial, with military honors provided by an active duty contingent of the United States Marine Corps and the Bernard Hurst Post #77 American Legion will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
