Obituary

Bill D. Haas, age 82, of Brookville, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born March 3, 1933 in Cedar Grove, he was the son of William A. and Esther Kunkel Haas. Bill served his country during the Korean War with the United States Army. He married Edith C. Gutzwiller on June 14, 1958 at St. Paul Catholic Church in New Alsace. Bill was a lifelong farmer, a Moews Seed dealer, and worked in grain storage construction for 35 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Oxford, Bath Conservation Club, and the Knights of Columbus Council 1968 of Hamilton as a 3rd degree Knight. Bill also enjoyed over 50 years of membership with the American Legion, the St. Joseph Post #464 of St Leon and the Bernard Hurst Post #77 in Brookville. He formerly was a member of the College Corner, Union County School Board, and for a number of years Bill helped at the 4-H Fair. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and being with family. Those surviving who will honor Bill's memory include his wife of over 56 years, Edith Haas; children, Scott (Sherrill) Haas of Liberty, Darrell (Penny) Haas of Brookville, Pam (Chris) DiBenedetto of Cincinnati, OH; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Marjorie Fohl of Cedar Grove, and brother, John Haas of Bath. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Shirley Falk, Carol Hannah, and Marilyn Haas. Friends may visit with the family from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Oxford, Ohio, on Saturday, April 25, 2015. A Mass of Christian burial, officiated by Rev. Jeffrey Silver begins at 11 a.m. Burial, with full military honors provided by the Bernard Hurst Post #77 American Legion of Brookville, will follow at Holy Guardian Angel Church Cemetery in Cedar Grove, Indiana. Family requests memorial donations to St. Mary's Church, the Chris Haas Endowment at Union County Community Foundation, or Holy Guardian Angel Cemetery Endowment at Franklin County Community Foundation.
