Obituary

Clifton W. Blake, age 96, went home to be with the Lord on November 18, 2013 at 3:05 PM. He had been a resident of Heritage House Nursing Facility in Greensburg, Indiana for the past year. Clifton was born July 31, 1917 in Owsley County, KY. He lived most of his life in Franklin County, Indiana. He was the last surviving sibling of ten children born to James T. and Mary Shepherd Blake. He served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1943. He married Nola Riley on December 25, 1943. They were blessed with seven children; Rena (Donald, deceased) Dillman, Roger (Betty) Blake, Ronald (Pat) Blake, Gregory (Lou Ann) Blake, Robert (Sherry) Blake, Randel (Carol) Blake;14 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.Clifton was a tool maker and machinist, as well as a farmer. After retirement he went to work at the gristmill in Metamora, Indiana as a miller. At six years of age while visiting the mill with his father he decided he would work there one day. He spent many happy years at the mill with his co-workers, and especially enjoyed the daily visitors and school groups. He loved people, always willing to lend a helping hand where needed. He enjoyed music, playing his guitar and singing, woodworking, gardening, golf, fishing, and hunting. Mostly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends.He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Nola, on February 27, 1996; son Darrell, on October 19, 1958, a stillborn daughter in 1958, grand-daughter, Jennifer Blake Goddard and grandson, Clifton Mathew Blake; his parents, brothers Roy, Ralph, Laurin, Clyde; sisters Craten, Ruby, Ora, Nancy, and a brother Earl who died in infancy.Calling will be Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 11:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM at Cook Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville, Indiana, with Rev Tony Carson and Rev Eric Hopkins officiating.Memorials may be made to Hospice South Central Indiana.
