Daniel S. Gengler, age 71, of Brookville, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Fayette Regional Health System in Connersville. He was born on August 10, 1942 in Beloit, Kansas to Sylvester "Buck" and Helen Budke Gengler. Dan came to Brookville in 1969 as head surveyor of the Brookville Reservoir. He married Jane Wilson on May 29, 1971 at St. Michael's Catholic Church and she survives. Dan worked and later retired from Wilson Feed Market. He was also a past chief and retired from the Brookville Fire Department after 30 years of service. Dan was a 53 year member of the Knights of Columbus, having served as a Grand Knight and also a 4th degree member. He was also a former member of the Franklin County Planning Commission Appeals Board. Dan enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and was an avid sports fan.Those surviving who will honor Dan's memory include his wife of over 42 years, Jane; daughters, Kristin (Mark) Shires of Brookville, Kellee (Jeremy) Cobb of Connersville, and Karin (Jeremy) Kuntz of Brookville; grandchildren, Kasey and Kyle Shires, Amanda and Evan Cobb and Garrett Kuntz; siblings, Stan (Johanna) Gengler, Kathy (Randy) Umscheid, Tom (Barbara) Gengler, Charlotte (Terry) Campbell, Patricia Gengler, Mike (Carol) Gengler, Tim (Laraine) Gengler, and Beth (Scott) Davies; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Dennis Gengler and niece, Terry Gengler. Visitation for friends and family will be from 4-8 p.m. with Rosary at 3:45 on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Cook Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville. Services are Saturday, March 1st, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Family requests memorial donations to the Lewis and Rosalie Wilson Endowment Fund in care of the Franklin County Community Foundation and the Brookville Volunteer Fire Department.
