Darrell Kent Brewer, of Richmond, was born on October 8, 1957, in Batesville, Indiana, to Herbert and Nellie Brewer.
Darrell attended Western Hills High School. After High School Darrell enlisted in the army where he was stationed in Germany for a number of years. He later went on to pursue a career in education, obtaining his bachelor’s degree at Indiana University East. A university he would come back to years later teaching computer classes at night as an adjunct professor. However, his primary passion was teaching elementary school, teaching at C.R. Richardson in Richmond Indiana for over 20 years.
Darrell is described by those closest to him as one of the kindest people you could have ever met. A free spirit who tried to make the best out of life. He was known to be kind to a fault always offering whatever he could to whomever needed it. He was known to regularly check on neighbors and friends cooking them meals when they were feeling under the weather. Darrell gave in truest form of giving, never expecting anything in return. Darrell had a deep love for music. He was an avid singer and songwriter, playing in several bands over the years in the Richmond area. Even playing on the Glen Miller stage for the Rose Festival multiple years. He enjoyed camping and playing music by the fire. He loved to take trips to Florida and the Gulf with his son and brothers. In his younger days Darrell was an accomplished athlete, competing in judo tournaments around the Midwest. Darrell passed away at home in Richmond, Indiana on August 23, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Brewer and older brother, Roger Brewer. Darrell is survived by his mother Nellie Brewer, older brother Bob Brewer and Claudia, his “bonus sister”; younger brother Dave Brewer, his son Michael Brewer (Tabatha); daughter Christi (Chris) Krogstad Yarbrough, and the memories he made with them. Friends and family may visit on Friday August 28 from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Pastor John Johnson will officiate the funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. Burial with military honors conducted by Brookville American Legion Bernard Hurst Post #77 will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
