Esther Dorothy Shaw, age 95, of Brookville, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Brookville Healthcare Center. Born September 30, 1919 at home in Butler County, Ohio, she was the daughter of John and Mary Otto Gifford. Esther married Rahe Woodrow Shaw on March 13, 1941. She farmed with her husband and was very active in her community. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Women's Club, the Clitter Clatter Club and Farm Bureau. Esther was formerly active in 4-H and PTA. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and Bible school. After retirement, she traveled extensively with Rahe to many special sites around the country. Esther loved to garden, and enjoyed walking, quilting, reading and crossword puzzles. Quite a special accomplishment was learning to play the piano at age 90. Those left to cherish Esther's memory include children, Curtis Alan (Molly) Shaw of Ft. Myers, FL, Anita Marie Shaw of Hamilton, OH, Dennis Rahe Shaw of Mt. Carmel, Jon Joseph (Molly) Shaw of Woodbine, MD; 4 grandchildren, Denise (Roger) Stacy, Jason Tompkins, Amanda Shaw, and Jessica Shaw; 4 great-grandchildren, Logan Tompkins, Makena Stacy, Ian Stacy, and Mills Rosselott; brothers, Dale (Betty) Gifford, Orville Gifford, and sister Lorraine (Don) Delong, all of Circleville, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson Michael Shaw, sister, Crystal and brothers, Earl, Frank, John, Vern and Art. Funeral services will be held at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11 a.m. Friends may visit with the family Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and again Saturday one hour prior to services, all at the church. Burial will follow in Millville Cemetery in Millville, Ohio. Family requests memorial donations to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church and the American Heart Association.
