Obituary

Glenn L. Roepke, 82, of Sunman, Indiana died Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at his residence. He was born in Sunman, Indiana on September 5, 1928 to Charles L. and May E. (Merrick) Roepke.He married Jeannine E. Olson on May 19, 1951 at First Christian Church in Harvey, Illinois. She preceded him in death on October 29, 2008.He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and was called back into service during the Korean Conflict, earning the Korean Service Ribbon and the United Nations Service Medal. He was a life member of the Sunman Community Church, a member of the VFW in Batesville, Indiana, and was a Past Commander and a member of the Sunman Legion's Kenneth L. Diver Post #337. His many occupations included being a retired Rural Letter Carrier from the U.S. Postal Service, a farmer, and a loving husband and father. His children shared, "Dad showed us if you worked hard at something you could achieve many things." He worked hard but he also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family both near and far.Survivors include Son and Daughter-in-law, Wayne and Elke Roepke of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Son and Daughter-in-law, Leslie C. and Barbara Roepke of Sunman, Indiana; Daughter and Son-in-law, Karen A. and Kenneth W. Shelp of Westport, Indiana; 7 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren.In addition to his Wife, Jeannine E. Roepke, and his Parents, Charles and May Roepke, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles H. Roepke.The visitation will be Saturday, October 23, 2010 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at Cook Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street, Sunman, Indiana 47041. The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 12:00 Noon. Dean H. Kroke, Pastor of the Sunman Community Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery in Sunman with graveside military honors provided by the Sunman American Legion's Kenneth L. Diver Post #337 and the Navy Funeral Honor Guard.Memorial donations may be directed to the Sunman Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 396, Sunman, Indiana 47041 or the Sunman Life Squad, P.O.
