Helen E. Schalk, age 89, of Laurel, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at her residence. One of thirteen children, she was born on January 16, 1926, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Albert and Ethel (Ross) Schibi. On September 25, 1945 Helen married William T. "Buck" Schalk, Jr. and he preceded her in death in March of this year. She was a member of the Everton Southern Baptist Church. Helen taught Sunday School at various churches for 22 years, and enjoyed bible studies. She was a loving, nurturing individual to animals, her family and many others who knew her. Those surviving who will cherish Helen's memory include daughters, Pam (Austin) Hoskins, and Donna (David) Murray, both of Laurel; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, and sisters, June (Schibi) Mullins, and Shirlee (Schibi) Vaccaro, both of Florida . Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step father, Franklin B. Young; son, William H. Schalk; grandchild, Deena Schalk, and siblings, Marcella Scholenburger, Albert Schibi, Ruth Schibi Werling, David Schibi, Robert Schibi, Betty Lou Schibi, Margaret Marian Schibi, Charles Schibi, William Schibi, and Kenneth Schibi. A celebration of Helen's life, officiated by Pastor Fred Helton of the Everton Southern Baptist Church will be held at 12 noon on Monday, July 13, 2015 at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville. Visitation for friends and family is from 9 a.m. till time of service. Burial in Arlington Memorial Gardens, Cincinnati, will follow.
