Irene Back, 89, of Brookville, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Brookville Healthcare Center. She was born August 26, 1922 in St.Peters to Anthony and Mary (Wiwi) Gillman. She was a Homemaker and a member of St. Michael Church- Brookville, and Daughters of Isabella. Irene was reared on a family farm as one of 10 children, and she often talked about her ability to help with family chores as she grew up. She was a 1940 graduate of Brookville High School. She worked briefly as a school secretary and, during WWII worked with girlfriends in Cincinnati. While rearing her children, she cleaned homes and offices for people in Brookville and surrounding areas and also did babysitting. Survivors include Daughters- Kathleen (Jim) Hils of Fort Thomas, KY, Carol Fasnacht of Richmond, IN and Margo (David) DeBrosse of Kettering, OH, a Son- Ken (Rose) Back of Evansville, IN 11 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, Sisters- Florence Brelage of Batesville, IN and Margie Scudder of Milan, IN, Sisters-in-law- Pauline Gillman of Harrison, OH and Rita Gillman of Cincinnati, OH. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Sisters- Loretta Westerman, Norma Gillman and Dorothy Gillman, Brothers- Louis, Clarence, William, Stanley and Cletus Gillman. Visitation will be Sunday, June 24, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Cook Funeral Home - Brookville, the Funeral Mass Monday, June 25, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Michael Church, Brookville, where Rev. C. Ryan McCarthy, the Pastor of St. Michael Church in Brookville, IN will preside, burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Brookville, IN, memorial contributions can be made to St. Michael Catholic Church, Brookville.
