James W. Ortman, 85, of Brookville, Indiana passed away Monday, June 13, 2011 at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Indiana.He was born May 22, 1926 in Brookville, Indiana to Walter J. and Cecelia F. (Niedenthal) Ortman.He was married to Patricia Sottong on September 13, 1947, she survives.James worked at Philco-Ford in Connersville for 20 years, owned the Union House (Ye Olde Shack)in Brookville for 8 years and served as a mail carrier for 25 years. He served in the US Air Force during WWII. He was a member of Bernard Hurst Post #77- American Legion- Brookville for over 60 years where he served on the Firing Squad and also belonged to the Knights of Columbus, he also enjoyed swimming, boating and conoeing.Survivors include: his Wife of 63 years Patricia, Daughters- Cynthia Ortman living in New Jersey, Lorinda and Troy Pipenger of Brookville, Sons- Terry and Chrissy Ortman living in Missouri, Timothy Ortman and Kevin Joyce living in California, Grandchildren- Trisha(Jeff) Hampson, Channel Ortman, Louise Ortman, Sally Ortman, Penny Ortman, Great Grandchildren- Tyler James Hampson, Trevor Hampson, Brooklyn Hampson, and Cameron Ortman, Sisters- Maryann (Dale) Deffner, Rita Apsley, Janie (rene) Stivers, Eileen (Jim) Hyde all of Brookville, Brothers- Ed (Connie) Ortman and Joe Ortman both of Brookville, and many NiecHes and Nephews.He was preceded in death by his Parents, Brothers- Tommy and Bob Ortman, Brother in law - Robert Apsley.Visitation will be Thursday, June 16, 2011 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Cook Funeral Home in Brookville, the Funeral Service will be Friday June 17 at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home where Rev. Ryan McCarthy, Pastor of St. Michael Church in Brookville will officiate.Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery with Graveside Military Honors by Bernard Hurst Post #77- American Legion- Brookville.Memorial Contributions may be made to the Firing Squad of the American Legion or to Franklin County Youth Football.
