Obituary

Jerry Joseph “Joey” Moore, of Connersville, Indiana, passed away on August 31, 2026 at the age of 68, at his home in Connersville, Indiana.

He was born in Batesville, Indiana, to the late Jerry Osmond Moore and Gertrude Fields Moore.

Joey is survived by his wife, Pamela Rae Moore; his children, Christy Jo Moore and her wife, Nicole, Heather Michelle Moore and her partner, William Tomlin, Jerri, and Brandon Joseph Moore with his partner, Casey Cantrell; his stepson, Ryan McNicholas with his wife, Meghan; and his sister, Becky Cox. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Brody, Brock, Briar, Wyatt, Lucy, Clara, and Brian; his step-grandchildren, Tyler and Mason; along with his granddogs, Karma and Neeka.

Joey was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry Osmond Moore and Gertrude Fields Moore; his brothers, Charles and Bert Moore; his sister, Millie Peters; his stepson, Brandon McNicholas; and his grandson, Eli Moore.

Joey was truly one of a kind—the kind of person who could never be adequately described in just a few words. He was free-spirited, fiercely himself, and had a heart of gold beneath a personality that could fill an entire room.

Those who knew Joey will especially remember his unmistakable sense of humor. Sarcasm was practically his second language. He was incredibly quick-witted and intelligent, and there was almost always more behind what he said than what you heard at first. He could deliver a perfectly timed comment with a straight face, wait for you to catch on, then break into that contagious laugh of his. Other times, there was absolutely nothing subtle about it. Either way, if Joey was giving you a hard time, there was a good chance it meant he liked you.

His laughter was every bit as memorable as his jokes. It was genuine, contagious, and often made whatever was happening even funnier. You never quite knew what was going to come out of Joey’s mouth next, and that was part of what made being around him so much fun. There was rarely a dull moment when he was there.

Behind all that sarcasm, joking, teasing, and carrying on was a man with an enormous heart. Joey loved deeply. He may not always have expressed it in conventional ways. Sometimes love sounded a lot like a smart remark, a nickname, some unsolicited advice, or giving you a hard time just because he could. But the people closest to Joey never had to question how much his family meant to him.

A diesel mechanic by trade, Joey was exceptionally talented with his hands and possessed a natural mechanical intelligence. He understood how things worked. He could look at something, listen to it, take it apart, and somehow figure out what was wrong. He was always fixing something, working on something, or finding a way to make something work again. His intelligence was practical and instinctive—the kind that cannot simply be taught.

Joey also enjoyed cooking, traveling, and spending time with the people he loved. He loved to cook and would gladly feed anyone who was ready to eat. For Joey, some of the best moments were simply those spent surrounded by family and friends, enjoying life in his own way.

Family meant everything to Joey. He shared his life with Pam, and the years they spent together were filled with family, travels, laughter, everyday moments, and memories that became part of the life they built together. He loved his children deeply and enjoyed spending time with them and the families they created. He knew how to make them laugh, how to aggravate them just enough, and how to leave them with stories they will undoubtedly tell for the rest of their lives.

Being Grandpa held an especially tender place in Joey’s heart. His grandchildren brought tremendous love and happiness into his life. They will carry with them not only memories of their Grandpa, but pieces of his personality—his humor, his sayings, his stories, his teasing, his laughter, and the particular way he made them know they were loved.

There are some people whose absence is impossible to describe because their presence was so large. Joey was one of those people. His family will miss his voice, his laughter, his stories, the things he could fix, the things he could cook, the advice he gave, and even those sarcastic remarks they may have pretended to be annoyed by.

Most of all, they will miss simply having him there.

His jokes will still be told. His stories will be repeated. His sayings will become part of the family forever. There will be moments when someone shrugs and says, “It is what it is,” or asks, “You know what I’m sayin’?” or “You feel me?”—and suddenly, Joey will feel a little closer.

Those words will sound different now.

They will sound like him.

The laughter, the sarcasm, the stories, and the love Joey gave his family will remain long after his passing. He was deeply loved, he will be deeply missed, and there will never be another quite like him.
