John Thomas Disch, 85, of Richmond, formerly of Lawrenceburg and Fairfield, Ohio, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Friends Fellowship Community in Richmond. He was born November 11, 1928 in Iona, Minnesota, a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Hoffman) Disch. John served 20 years in the U.S. Navy enlisting near the end of World War II and serving during the Korean War. Following his retirement from the Navy he was a heavy equipment operator for 23 years with Dravo in Fairfield, OH. John was a 35 year member of Sacred Heart Church in Fairfield, Ohio. He was an excellent mechanic and enjoyed doing yard work. Those surviving who will honor John's memory include his wife, Mary Ann (Hemke) (Riehle) Disch; four children, Randy (Jeannine) Disch of Lawrenceburg, Thomas John Disch of Indianapolis, Bob (Teri) Disch of Aurora and Kathy (Dan) Veit of Mason, OH; step-children, Tom (Cris) Riehle of Harrison, OH and Janie (Bob) Fleming of Richmond; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Alvina Crowley of Iona, MN and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patsy Ruth (Kennedy) Disch; three brothers, Gordon, Gene and Joe Disch and three sisters, Rita McDonald, Vi Laird and Armella Kellen. A Mass of Christian burial, officiated by Father Jonathan Meyer, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014 at St. Paul Catholic Church in New Alsace, IN. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Family requests memorial donations to Alzheimer's Research.
