Joseph L. Hountz, age 82 of Sunman, Indiana passed away on July 16, 2014 at his residence. Born on September 3, 1931, in Ripley County, Indiana, he was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Thomas Hountz. Joseph served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War. On June 14, 1952 he married Viola Riehle at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Sunman and she survives. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the St. Leon, St. Joseph American Legion Post #464. Joseph retired from Fisher Body after 37 years of service but his real passion was farming. He also loved to take the family on rides throughout the county with his team of Belgium horses. Those surviving who will honor Joseph's memory include his wife, Viola; children; Joyce (Albert, Jr.) Kraus of Batesville, James (Karen) Hountz of Guilford, Joseph (Annette) Hountz of Sunman, Paul (Marilyn) Hountz of Sunman, Betty (George) Hoff of North Carolina, Leroy (Kimberly) Hountz of Sunman, Mary Lou (Dan) Doll of Sunman, and Dorita Hodges of Lawrenceburg; 24 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Pauline Oswald, brother David Hountz, granddaughter, Anna Kraus and great grandson Hunter Hoff. Visitation for friends and family is Saturday, July 19, 2014 at St. Peter's Catholic Church from 9 a.m. to 1p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Rev. Humbert Moster, will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the St. Leon, St. Joseph American Legion Post #464.
