Juanita L. Higgs, 86, of Brookville, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013 at Brookville Healthcare Center. She was born October 1, 1926 in Laurel, Indiana to Earl and Clara Van Meter. She married Carl Higgs on November 2, 1946 in Connersville. Along with her husband, Juanita owned and operated Favorite Dry Cleaners and Laundromat. After retiring, she enjoyed working with stained glass, sewing and helping with the family shop in Metamora. Those left to honor Juanita's memory include her son and daughter-in law, Gary and Angie Higgs of Brookville; 2 grandchildren, Rhonda (Keith) Hensley of Cedar Grove, and Carl E. Higgs of Hazard, KY; 4 great grandchildren, Keith Hensley, Jr., Tyler Hensley, Scarlett Higgs and Savannah Higgs; 2 sisters, Kathleen Covey of Danville, IN, and Lilah Howell of Mooresville, IN; and one brother, Robert Van Meter of Laurel. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Gwin. From 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 friends may visit with Juanita's family at Cook Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville, Indiana. The funeral service will begin at 12 noon, officiated by Pastor Donn Abdon of St. Thomas Lutheran Church.
