Obituary

Julie A. Hertel, age 54, of Connersville, died Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Reid Hospital in Richmond. Born on January 3, 1960 at Fayette Memorial Hospital, she was the daughter of Donald "Buck" and Alberta Rosenberger Smith. Julie was a graduate of Brookville High School as well as Ball State University. She married Scott Hertel on October 27, 1989 and he survives. Julie taught at Grandview Elementary and Fayette Central for the hearing impaired. Later, she continued to care for the hearing impaired children of Fayette and the surrounding counties while teaching pre-school at Fayette Central. Julie loved flowers, vacations, cooking and reading, but the two most important things in her life were teaching and her family. She dedicated herself to her family and helped shape her children and husband into the people they are today. Those surviving who will honor Julie's memory include her husband Scott; son, Brady Hertel of Connersville, step-daughter, Megan Weber of Batesville, and step-son, Dustin (Michelle) Hertel of Warsaw; step-grandchildren, Ella and Karter Weber, and Beau and Leigh Hertel; sister, Tammy (Dave) Sharp of Brookville; nieces, Chelsea and Katelyn Sharp; brother-in-law Barry Hertel and his wife Michelle of Blooming Grove and niece Haley Hertel. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Debbie.
