Kathy L. Bender of Sunman was born on November 7, 1946 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Charles A. and Edna E. Lipps Eckstein. She married Michael J. Bender on May 29, 1965 at St. Dominic Church in Delhi, Ohio. Kathy had worked for Pentecost Tours in Batesville and was a member of St. Nicholas Church. She loved her church and church family at St. Nicholas, and was very active in many prayer groups and organizations. Kathy enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and was a well-known seamstress. She passed away at the age of 68, on September 18, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Those surviving who will cherish Kathy's memory include her husband, Michael Bender; daughter and son-in-law, Kristen and Joe Zaffiro of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Gabriella and Giovanni Zaffiro; sister, Rita (Dale) Jacobs, and brothers, Charles (Arlene), Henry (Kathy), Len (Marcia), Ken (Mary Lou), Tom (Michele), Frank (Margie), Jeff (Amie) Eckstein, all of Sunman, and Fred (Kathy) Eckstein of Sevierville, TN, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Marie Bender on March 13, 2014. Friends may visit with Kathy's family on Sunday, September 20, 2015 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street, Sunman. Father Shaun Whittington will officiate the Mass of Christian burial on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Church. Additional services will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.
