Obituary

Kenneth E. Schmidt, 78, was born on March 24, 1947 and passed away peacefully on Monday, November 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Ken valued his Catholic faith and relationship with God. This relationship became even stronger over the last few months as Ken turned to his Lord and Savior with trust and conviction as he tried to recover from a catastrophic stroke. His faith in God brought him comfort during his last days.

Ken was an Indianapolis businessman who took great pride in his involvement with community and philanthropic events, especially St. Mary's Early Childhood Center. He was a member of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) and held numerous leadership positions over the last several decades. In addition, the annual CSI convention every summer doubled as the Schmidt family vacation, so his entire family has wonderful memories of CSI.

Ken was driven to succeed and to provide for his family since he became a father at 19 years of age.  With only a high school diploma (Scecina Memorial High School - 1963), Ken worked diligently moving up the company ladder until he was finally able to purchase Seward Sales in the 1990s.  Not only was Ken the owner, but his entrepreneurial spirit allowed him to run multiple companies until the day of his stroke on November 11, 2024.

Ken valued time with his family and would tell anyone who would listen all about his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Ken is survived by his son Josef Schmidt (Cheryl), daughter Dee Kramer (Keith), sister-in-law and bonus daughter Denise Howell, his five granddaughters Kelsea Densford (Chad) Kendra Kramer Rodriguez (Harley), Addison Schmidt, Liza Schmidt, and Olivia Schmidt, his two great grandchildren Kambrie Densford and Kramer Densford, and his brother Charles Schmidt (Bonnie). Ken was preceded in death by his father, Victor Schmidt, his mother, Dorothy Schmidt, and his sister, Janet Shade.
