Margarete Whiteman, 85, of Brookville died on Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at her residence.

Margarete was born in Brookville on December 23, 1934 to John and Mary Custer Johnson. She was a homemaker and attended church in Bath, Indiana. Margarete was a member of the DAR and the Home Economics Club and enjoyed caring for her farm in West College Corner and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Margarete is survived by a son: David Dare of Brookville; two daughters: Mary Dare of Brookville and Peggy Dare of Bath; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four siblings: Martha Shea of Brookville, Indiana,  Annabelle Johnson of Oceanside, California, Richard Johnson of Hawaii, and Robert Johnson of Andersonville, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. Margarete was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings.
