Mary E. "Betty" Hertel, of Brookville, was born on February 11, 1934 in Newport, Kentucky, the daughter of Clyde and Dorothy Kuntz Carter.  She graduated from Brookville High School in 1952, and married Donald H. Hertel on April 11, 1953 at St. Michael Church.  Betty was Deputy Treasurer of Franklin County for several years, and a member of St. Michael Church.  She enjoyed working puzzles, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren.  On Saturday, April 23, 2016, at the age of 82, Betty passed away at McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Ohio.

Those surviving who will cherish Betty's memory include her husband of 63 years, Donald Hertel; son, Steve (Carla) Hertel of Brookville, and grandchildren, David, Kelly and Emily.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville.  Rosary will be at 7 p.m.  A Mass of Christian burial, officiated by the Very Rev. Sean Danda is on Saturday, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
