Obituary

Monica Lynn Dorsel, of Renton, Washington went to be with our Lord on November 5, 2018.

Born to Bill and Mary Ann Dorsel in Ft. Thomas, KY on August 5, 1964, she was raised with two older brothers and was the classic princess of the family.  After surviving her childhood with her brothers, as Missy or Twiggy as we called her, she finished college in the new major of Information Technologies and became Monica the independent career woman.

She got a job with Manhattan Associates in the 90's when supply chain was just starting and when mail order was booming before the dot.com bubble. While Monica was working in Florida and was shopping at Nordstrom, she talked with an employee who planted the seed that she could sell shoes at Nordstrom for extra money, she did.  From her start as a shoe salesperson there she worked her way up through the company and eventually moved to Nordstrom HQ in Seattle to lead their IT strategies in her long career in retail.  In Seattle, Monica met up with Paulette, her father's cousin and Michelle, Paulette's daughter and became an aunt to Michelle's children.  It is a blessing that we had these local "angels" and their families helping Monica in her time of need later in life with all the rest of us so distant.

Monica did things like making special wedding cake crème wafer cookies every Christmas and making sure everyone had a couple of tins to take home. Even when her feet were numb from chemo and her back was aching, she managed the arduous task of making all the cookies.

She was generous in giving of her time talents and treasures and spent countless hours thinking about her nieces and nephews which peaked with her planning a Seattle Christmas celebration this year with her funding the entire event to allow us to all be together as a family in her home.

Monica was always in charge of making the Caesar salad for celebration meals.  She made awesome dressing that could only be enjoyed by true friends due to the garlic content and no matter how much salad she made every bit was always devoured.

Making special homemade Christmas gifts like sewing tote bags with your favorite sports team, or knitting hats for everyone, and custom etching of glasses are blessings from a foregone age of skilled crafts.

She spoiled us with her generous gifts on birthdays and Christmas. She knew just what to get everyone from high end brand names for the older kids, to Build a Bears and special blankies for the younger ones.  Monica was a gamer and loved candy crush and was a pioneer techy STEM female that was always paperless, she even ran her own and her Dad's lights in Ft Lauderdale with cloud apps!

She happily made the long flights from Seattle for every Christmas and most Easters and other special occasions.

When we visited Monica, we experienced the enthusiasm and passion she had for the Seattle Seahawks. Monica would scream and yell at the top of her lungs for the Seahawks to win.   We asked her why she had the number 12 and other Seahawk memorabilia plastered all around the house.  She let us know she was the 12 th person on the team, cheering on the Seahawks.  Immediately prior to Monica's passing, we all talked to her on the phone, and the only thing we asked was for her to be our 12 th person rooting for us until we reach the postseason.

Our princess left us fighting cancer like the Leo Lion she was and although still in suffering in her last weeks could be heard singing joyfully while adding to her basket collection and ordering her dad another cashmere sweater.

She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Ann and is survived by her father Bill Dorsel, Her brothers Roger and Jeff Dorsel, Her eight nieces and nephews Doug, Dirk, Monique, Paige, Jaclyn, Gus, Quinn, and Faye.
