Peter J. Forthofer, age 67, of Sunman, Indiana passed away Friday, March 14, 2014. He was born June 5, 1946 to Ralph and Mary Riehle Forthofer in Sunman. Peter proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as part of the United States Marine Corps. He married Ann Holycross in 1977 and she preceded him in death on November 14, 2004. Peter worked at Cummins in Columbus, Indiana in various capacities, and was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Peter loved baseball, having played for many years. He was a devoted husband, wonderful brother and friend. Those surviving who will honor Peter's memory include; sisters, Joanna (John) Kinker, Catherine (Russel) Niese, Rosemary (Bill) Theising, and Vicki (Gary) Dudley, all of Sunman; sister-in-law, Rosie Forthofer of Sunman; 20 nieces and nephews; 56 great nieces and nephews, and 3 great, great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, Peter was preceded in death by his brother Raphael. Visitation is Tuesday, March 18, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street, Sunman. Rosary will begin at 3:30. A Mass of Christian burial, officiated by Father Shaun Whittington, is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. Family requests memorial donations to St. Nicholas School, the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Margaret Mary Community Hospital.
