Ralph H. Gutzwiller, 95, of Sunman, Indiana died Sunday, March 7, 2010 at his residence.Born October 23, 1914 in New Alsace, Indiana he was the son of Edward and Caroline (Knueven) Gutzwiller. On August 13, 1942 he wed Eleanor Wilhelmia Morgan in St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Pete, Indiana. They were married for 67 years, and she survives.An Army Veteran of World War II he served in France and Germany. He worked as a carpenter for Leo Kesterman Construction. He was a member of St. Peter Church and a 50 year member of the St. Leon American Legion's St. Joseph Post #464. He was an avid card player, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and feeding the birds and squirrels outside his patio. He loved gardening, especially his tomato plants. He was also a fan of the Cincinnati Reds, having a love-hate relationship with them, depending on the year.In addition to his Wife, Eleanor, he is survived by four Children, Diane (Carrol) Gramman of Sunman, Indiana, Sharon (Dennis) Simmermeyer of St. Mary's Indiana, Edward (Melanie) Gutzwiller of St. Leon, Indiana, and Nita Gutzwiller of Sunman, Indiana; 9 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren; and 1 Great-Great Grandchild.In addition to his Parents he was preceded in death by 14 Brothers and Sisters.The Visitation will be Wednesday, March 10, 2010 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Cook Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street, Sunman, Indiana, 47041. A Rosary Service will be held at 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will also be Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 1:00 PM at St. Peter Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery with Graveside Military Honors provided by St. Leon American Legion's St. Joseph Post #464.Memorial donations may be given for Masses or directed to either the St. Peter's Church, 1207 East Road, Brookville, Indiana, 47012; The Sunman Life Squad, P.O. Box 55, Sunman, Indiana 47041; or to the Hospice of Margaret Mary Community Hospital, 321 Mitchell Avenue, Batesville, Indiana, 47006.Family members will serve as Pallbearers.
