Raphael Paul Forthofer, age 73, of Sunman, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 4, 2013.He was born on September 24, 1939 to Ralph and Mary (Riehle) Forthofer. Raphael married Rosina Nobbe on November 24, 1966 at St. Louis Church in Batesville, Indiana and she survives. Raphael worked at Cincinnati Incorporated before purchasing Forthofer's Market, which he and Rosie owned for 28 years. He also worked at North Dearborn Elementary as a janitor and at Weber's Greenhouse. He was a member of St. Nicholas Church, the Holy Name Society, the Sunman American Legion and the American Trappers Association. He also served in the Army. Raphael enjoyed watching all types of athletic events, including the Cincinnati Reds, Indiana Hoosiers and the East Central Trojans. He also enjoyed fishing and trapping. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Rosie; children, Shele (Scott) Wiedeman of Sunman, Nicholas (Candice) Forthofer of Lake Placid, FL, and Christy Werner of Batesville; grandchildren, Daniele (Michael Schum, fianc), Natalie and Madison Wiedeman, Katie, Courtney, Nicholas James, and Kimberly Forthofer, and Cory and Casey Werner. Also left to honor his memory is brother Pete Forthofer; sisters, Joanna Kinker, Catherine Niese, Rosemary Thiesing, and Vicki Dudley, all of Sunman; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, April 9, 2013, from 4-8 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street, Sunman with Rosary at 3:30. Additional visitation will be at St. Nicholas Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9-10:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian burial beginning at 10:30, officiated by Rev. Pascal and Rev. Frank Eckstein. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.Memorial donations may be directed to Sunman Volunteer Fire Department, the Sunman Life Squad, or St. Nicholas Catholic Church for masses.
