Ruth A. Mergenthal, age 91, of Brookville, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash. She was born January 25, 1923 in Oak Forest, Indiana to Ben and Mary Lithman Bruns. Ruth married Frank G. Mergenthal on April 7, 1945 in St. Cecelia Church in Oak Forest, and he preceded her in death on September 8, 2005. She worked for several years as a cook at Springfield School and farmed with her husband. Ruth was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, and Daughters of Isabella. She loved flowers, gardening, quilting, and enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Those surviving who will honor Ruth's memory include children; Mryna (George) Wissing of Cincinnati, OH, Phyllis (Al) Metz of Shandon, OH, Karen (Eugene) Meyer of Brookville, and Jeff (Kathy) Mergenthal of Maple Valley, WA; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and sister, Leona "Dink" Kalb of Cincinnati, OH. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Brent and a daughter, Anita Hertel; 1 sister, Rosemary Cowan; and 9 brothers, Jerome, Ray, Arnie, Ralph, Cliff, Bill, Howard, Harold, and Ambrose "Tim" Bruns. Visitation for friends and family will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 with Rosary at 3:30, at Cook Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church with Father Sean Danda officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
