Vantis Hackney, age 92, of Brookville passed away May 21, 2014 at Brookville Healthcare Center. Born in Mount Vernon, Kentucky on May 9, 1922 he was the son of Milton and Grace Gill Hackney. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army. His wife, Mary Ann Hackney preceded him in death on December 22, 2002. Vantis worked as a machinist for Kroger Co. in Cincinnati for many years. Survivors include children, Dwite (Cindy) Hackney of Florida, Cassandra (Jim) Heller of Metamora, Pam Sellers (friend Allen) of Connersville; 5 grandchildren, Michelle Throop, Calvin Heller, Deborah Newton, Cherie Kidd and Christopher Hackney; 14 great grandchildren, 1 great, great grandchild; sister, Gladys Jardee of Cincinnati, and brother Ralph Campbell of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. There will be no public services. A private family entombment will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery in Cincinnati, OH on May 27, 2014.
