Obituary

Virginia Irene McVay, 82, of Milan (Manchester), Indiana died Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. She was born November 9, 1927 in Coeburn, Virginia to J.W. and Mollie (Houchins) Cole.On October 30, 1965 she married Ray M. McVay in Newport, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on July 16, 2000.She had moved to this area from Kentucky in 1976. She worked for a brief period in her late teens for P & G in Cincinnati but spent most of her life working as a wife, mother, and homemaker as well as a caretaker for anyone that needed her help. She was a member of First Church of God in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Her family described her as a good Christian Woman who was kind-hearted, honest, and always put others before herself. She had a rough life and lost both of her parents at a young age. However, she was never angry or bitter due to those circumstances. One of her kindest qualities was her generosity. She never knew a stranger, would take anyone in if she could help them, and would go without something if someone else needed it, figuring they needed it more than she did. She was giving to her Church, even on a very fixed income. She was also an amazing country cook and one of her specialties was her pan-fried chicken made in her old cast iron skillet. Survivors include her Daughter, Norma Jean Fields of the Lexington, Kentucky area; Grandchildren, Virginia Ann McKay of Rising Sun, Indiana and James Fields of Sunman, Indiana; and Great-Grandchildren, Keaton and Mia; Her Nephew and Caretaker, John Gibbs and his Wife, Amy Gibbs of Sunman (Aurora), Indiana; and many other Nieces & Nephews. In addition to her Parents and her Husband of 34 years, Ray McVay, she was preceded in death by her Sister, Catherine Ruth Gibbs and three Brothers, John Cole, Earl Cole, and Ralph Cole. The Visitation will be Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Cook Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street, Sunman, Indiana.
