William T. "Buck" Schalk, age 89, of Laurel, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Fayette Regional Health System in Connersville. Born March 10, 1926 in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of William and Hazel Frazier Schalk. On September 25, 1945 William married Helen E. Schibi. He served his country during WWII in the United States Army Air Corps. William worked as a machinist with tool and die at Tool Steel Gear and Pinion (now XTEK) in Elmwood and was a member of Everton Southern Baptist Church. William loved his family, farming the land, and enjoyed birthday parties. He never knew a stranger and was well known for his sense of humor, often saying he was going to live to be 99 and get shot by a jealous husband! Those surviving who will cherish William's memory include wife, Helen E. Schalk; daughters, Pam (Austin) Hoskins, and Donna (David) Murray, both of Laurel; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by son, William H. Schalk; grandchild, Deena Schalk; sisters, Helen Tyson and Gladys Lafayette, and brothers, Donnie, Frank, Clifford, and Pete Schalk. A celebration of William's life, officiated by Pastor Fred Helton will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2015 at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville. Visitation for friends and family is from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Military honors, conducted by Bernard Hurst Post #77 American Legion will be held at the funeral home. Burial in Arlington Memorial Gardens, Cincinnati is on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. Family requests memorial donations to the American Heart Association or to Everton Southern Baptist Church.
