William E. Schuman, age 88, of Lawrenceville, passed away Friday, May 8, 2015 at his residence. Born September 4, 1926, in St. Leon, he was the son of Joseph and Rose Rosfeld Schuman. William served in the United States Army during WWII and later attended agriculture school under the GI Bill. He married Alene Mae Knecht on October 20, 1951 at St. Peter's Catholic Church. William was a lifelong farmer and also known as the best gravel spreader around. He was a member of the St. Leon, St. Joseph Post #464, American Legion and St. Peters Catholic Church. William loved Farmall H tractors, baseball - especially the Cincinnati Reds, and his animals. Those surviving who will cherish William's memory include his wife of over 63 years, Alene Mae Schuman; children, Wilma Brannan of West Lafayette, Diana (Gene) Yee of Cincinnati, Dolores (Don) Alexander of Lawrenceville, Daniel Charles (Deb) Schuman of Batesville, Arleen (Ron) Wuestefeld of St. Leon, Laura Soos of Bright, Lisa (Randy) Broun of Cincinnati, and Michelle (Eric) Shumate of Logan; 19 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; siblings, Walter (Mary) Schuman, Joseph (Martha) Schuman, and Richard (Patsy) Schuman, all of St. Leon, Loretta Bihr of Harrison, and Matilda Bischoff of Columbus, OH. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Lawrence and Harold Schuman, Frances Andres, Viola Andres, and Alberta Mergenthal; son-in-law, David Brannan, and great grandson, Brandon Yee. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street, Sunman. A Mass of Christian burial, held at St. Peter's Catholic Church and officiated by Fr. Humbert Moster, is Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Burial, with military honors provided by the St. Leon St. Joseph Post #464 will follow in the church cemetery.
