About Us: A Tradition of Caring Since 1934

For more than 90 years, our funeral home has been built upon a simple commitment: to serve families with compassion, dignity, and personal attention during one of life's most difficult times.

Our story began on July 12, 1934, when the Dearborn County Register announced the formation of a new undertaking firm in Sunman, Indiana, known as Hashagen and Cook. J. R. Hashagen and H. J. Cook, both licensed embalmers of Sunman, established the firm in the building previously occupied by Charles Hashagen, who had served the community in the undertaking business for many years. The firm was also equipped to provide ambulance service, reflecting the important role funeral homes played in caring for their communities.

The Cook family's commitment to funeral service continued to grow. In 1964, following the unexpected passing of Brookville funeral director Leslie Clevenger, Howard and Sarah Cook purchased the Clevenger Funeral Home in Brookville. Their son, David Cook, would go on to operate the Brookville funeral home, serving generations of families in Brookville and the surrounding communities.

For nearly five decades, David Cook carried forward the family's tradition of funeral service. In 2012, he sold the business to Daniel and Amanda Rosenberger, who continued serving local families while preserving the Cook name and its longstanding connection to the community.

In 2025, Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home entered into a partnership with Weigel Funeral Home of Batesville, Indiana, bringing together two established funeral service families with deep roots in the communities they serve.

Today, we are proud to carry forward a tradition that began in 1934. While funeral service has changed considerably over the past nine decades, our purpose has remained the same: to be there for families when they need us most.

We understand that every family is different and that every life deserves to be remembered in a meaningful way. Our role is to provide thoughtful guidance, professional service, and genuine compassion while helping each family honor the life of their loved one.

From our beginnings in Sunman, through the Cook family's expansion to Brookville, the years under the Rosenberger family, and our partnership with Weigel Funeral Home, we remain committed to the tradition entrusted to us by those who came before.

More than 90 years of caring for families. A tradition built on service. A commitment to the generations yet to come.
